Jan Bulis scored a career-best four goals, and the Montreal Canadiens ended a seven-game road losing streak with a 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. Montreal had lost 16 of its last 17 on the road. Atlantic Division-leading Philadelphia has lost four of its last five games at home.
It could be a costly loss for the Flyers, who lost center Peter Forsberg, the team’s leading scorer, to a left groin strain in the second period.
Pittsburgh 8, Washington 1 -- Mark Recchi and John LeClair each had two goals at Pittsburgh to help the Penguins end a 10-game losing streak.
Carolina 4, Florida 3 -- Erik Cole and Ray Whitney scored in a shootout to lift the visiting Hurricanes over the Panthers for their 11th win in 12 games.
Dallas 4, St. Louis 3 -- Sergei Zubov and Jussi Jokinen scored in the shootout at Dallas, and the Stars remained perfect in the NHL’s new tiebreaker with six shootout wins this season.
