Airbus May Compete for Boeing-Held Contract

European company Airbus would be allowed to compete for a multibillion-dollar Air Force contract that Boeing Co. has held for decades under a study of options for buying new refueling planes.
Rep. Norm D. Dicks (D-Wash.), who was briefed on the still-classified report, said it called for the Air Force to convert commercial aircraft similar to those built by Airbus and Chicago-based Boeing into tankers that refuel planes in flight.

* Lockheed Martin Corp. won a $2-billion contract, beating Raytheon Co. and Northrop Grumman Corp., to build ground stations that will manage a new constellation of high-speed military communications satellites, the Air Force said.
