Little Understanding of Medicare Coverage

In response to “Medicare Part D Is Helping Seniors,” Letters, Jan. 22:

It’s sad that Rep. Bill Thomas (R-Bakersfield) is so pathetically uninformed as to Part D Medicare.

I and others I know had Medicare A and B, Secure Horizons HMO and Medi-Cal. All of our prescriptions were 100% covered.

Now, two of my prescriptions are not covered and my cost is more than $100 a month. I have talked to Medicare, Secure Horizons and Medi-Cal. Each blames the other. I also have repeatedly asked my pharmacy to check the problem. They say they can do only what their computer says. Incredibly, none of them knows about the state’s guarantee of payments.

I don’t think that any of the respondents to “Medicare Drug Plan Looks Like a Big Scam” (Michael Hiltzik’s Golden State column, Jan. 19) have experienced the true nightmare that Medicare drug “coverage” has caused for me and hundreds of thousands of Medicare and state medical assistance beneficiaries.
