Wildfire Burns 740 Acres in National Park

A wildfire caused by lightning burned about 740 acres inside Joshua Tree National Park before it was extinguished late Saturday night, federal officials said Sunday.
The blaze started about 2:30 p.m. Saturday near Jumbo Rocks Campground, a popular site in the center of the park where a handful of visitors had to be evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Park ranger Pam Tripp said about 100 federal firefighters and 10 engines put out the fire about midnight Saturday. She said roads through the burned areas will remain closed until fire crews wrap up their operations.
