Militia Street Fighting Kills 20, Injures Dozens

Somalia’s Islamist militias attacked fighters loyal to defeated warlords in street battles that killed at least 20 people and wounded scores more.
War-weary residents of Mogadishu, the nation’s capital, ran for cover as rival militias fired machine guns and pounded each other with mortars near the volatile Kilometre Four district, where warlords had been holding out against the Islamists.
Ali Moallim, administrator of one of Mogadishu’s main hospitals, said 20 people had died and about 100 were wounded, many seriously.
