2-Year-Old Drowns in Family’s Backyard Pool

A 2-year-old boy drowned in a backyard pool Monday as his family prepared for a swim.
Authorities did not release the name of the toddler. Family members found him floating in the pool on the 5200 block of East Rolling Hills Drive about 4:20 p.m.
“This is one of those tragic accidents,” said John Nicoletti, Anaheim city spokesman. “It appears that this family had taken the necessary precautions; there was a safety net by the pool, but it had been removed prior to their entering. It’s a precautionary tale about how diligent you need to be with your young kids around any kind of water.”
The child was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The accident is under investigation.
