Jack Curran, 73, the first Lakers trainer during the “Showtime” era and, overall, a trainer for 15 teams in four sports over a quarter century, died of a heart attack early Saturday at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, Wash.
Curran, who once described himself as the Lakers’ “wagon master,” served as the team’s traveling secretary in addition to performing his duties in the training room from 1978 to 1984, a period that included the first two championships of the Magic Johnson-Kareem Abdul-Jabbar era.
A native of Agawam, Mass., Curran went on to become a trainer for the FBI for 11 years after leaving the Lakers.
