A San Bernardino County man who authorities said was stopped at the Mexican border with a 5-year-old boy on his lap pleaded not guilty in federal court Tuesday to charges of sexual exploitation of a child, transportation of child pornography and kidnapping, a spokeswoman with the U.S. attorney’s office in San Diego said.
Earl Venton Buchanan, 62, of Bloomington was arrested July 3 in Calexico. Federal officials said they found a videotape in Buchanan’s van of an apparently sedated young boy being molested. Authorities believe that Buchanan may have molested nearly a dozen children.
Buchanan is in custody in Imperial County. A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 28 in San Diego.
