An 18-year-old bicyclist from Mentone, critically injured in a hit-and-run accident that killed his 13-year-old friend, died Wednesday after being taken off life support at Loma Linda University Medical Center.
Brian Cierley was riding home on Highway 38 about 11 p.m. July 9 with Dylan Elder balanced on the handlebars when the two were hit by 36-year-old Mark Alan Critelli, a Santa Barbara resident who ditched his car less than a mile away, authorities said.
Dylan died at the scene, and Cierley was taken to the hospital with critical head and spine injuries.
Critelli, arrested the next day on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run, is still in custody, officials said.
