Give the Flaming Lips a hand

The Flaming Lips have rarely if ever wavered from their defiantly oddball course, so the veteran Oklahoma City band’s growing popularity is a testament to the appeal of idiosyncrasy. The new album, “At War With the Mystics,” continues its tradition of blending philosophical rumination with mind-bending rave-up, and the Hollywood Bowl should be an ideal setting for its famous concert antics, including the folks in animal suits. Adding to the allure is the presence of the electronic duo Thievery Corporation and the enigmatic Os Mutantes. (Story, Page 10).
