Reed’s loss

Re “Reed Loses GOP Bid in Georgia,” July 19
Ralph Reed made a good living mobilizing the Christian right, ostensibly to bring “Christian values” into the political arena. His bread and butter were knee-jerk issues like stem cell research and abortion and hammering away at godless liberal Democrats. Apparently, however, he threw in with convicted fraud artist Jack Abramoff to grab $5.3 million from some Indian tribes in an effort to keep lucrative gambling spoils from other tribes. Lo and behold, what did Reed discover? His supporters actually do have values, and they don’t support greed, deceit and hypocrisy; at least they didn’t this week when thwarting Reed’s bid to be lieutenant governor of Georgia, stopping for now the political ambitions of a man who apparently thought nothing of preaching one thing and doing another.
