This wasn’t in the lesson plan

Laurence Fishburne, perhaps most widely known as “The Matrix” trilogy’s enigmatic Morpheus, heads the cast in Alfred Uhry’s drama “Without Walls.” The Tony-winning, Oscar-nominated stage and screen veteran plays a charismatic, idealistic teacher in a nontraditional Manhattan high school, circa 1977, whose bond with a confused transfer student and the school’s star student-actress leads the three down a perilous path of misperceptions and complex emotions. Presented by Center Theatre Group.

“Without Walls,” Mark Taper Forum, 135 N. Grand Ave., L.A. Opens 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Runs 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. Sundays, 2:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Ends July 16. $42 to $55. (213) 628-2772; www.CenterTheatreGroup.org.
