Guards Tell Neighbors Prison Is a Threat

Guards at the Nevada State Prison have left about 1,000 leaflets at surrounding homes, warning that the Carson City facility poses a threat to the community.
The action reflects problems between prison management and staff that began early this year. More than 100 employees rallied outside the prison gate in April.
“As correctional officers ... it is our obligation to inform you, the public, that we feel that we can no longer assure your safety,” the leaflet reads.
Fritz Schlottman of the state Department of Corrections said neighbors need not worry.
