The Walt Disney Company Foundation led a Hollywood effort this week to raise more than $4 million to help build the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial in Washington, DC.
The Disney foundation handed over a check for $2.5 million, in addition to $1.5 million donated by other members of the entertainment industry, including the David Geffen Foundation, Steven Spielberg and Warner Bros.
So far, $57 million has been raised for construction of the landmark, which will be located between the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials on the National Mall. Officials hope to raise $100 million for the project. Groundbreaking is scheduled for fall.
