The business agent for the Hollywood union representing set decorators, special effects workers and prop makers has been suspended from his job after the union accused him of misappropriating funds and other misconduct.
Ronnie Cunningham, who works for Local 44 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, faces allegations that in 2000 and 2004 he demanded $500 to $1,000 cash payments from people seeking union jobs, according to an affidavit of charges posted on Local 44’s website.
In addition, the union alleges that Cunningham bypassed its rules in hiring at least 20 people, had union employees do jobs at his home and improperly paid himself tens of thousands in compensation.
Union officials declined to comment. Cunningham could not be reached. Cunningham, who has been the union’s business agent for more than 14 years, will face a trial before a jury of union members.
