Maryland Beats Duke in Tournament

Crystal Langhorne couldn’t contain her excitement. Finally, after losing 14 games in a row to Duke, the fourth-ranked Maryland Terrapins had won.

And Langhorne yelled it to her teammates before they even got to the locker room.

No one would blame the Terrapins for savoring this one.

Laura Harper had 17 points, Marissa Coleman added 16 points and 13 rebounds and Maryland beat the second-ranked Blue Devils, 78-70, Saturday in the semifinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament at Greensboro, N.C.

The Terrapins (28-3) advanced to today’s final against No. 1 North Carolina, which cruised to a 90-69 victory over North Carolina State in the other semifinal game.

No. 17 Utah 69, Wyoming 67 -- Shona Thorburn’s driving layup with 5.3 seconds left in overtime lifted the Utes at Laramie, Wyo. Kim Smith scored 26 points to lead Utah (21-6, 12-4 Mountain West), which overcame a double-digit second-half deficit.

No. 21 New Mexico 74, No. 18 Brigham Young 49 -- Reserve guard Julie Briody scored 16 points and the Lobos (21-8, 11-5 Mountain West Conference) hit seven straight three-pointers in the first half at Albuquerque.

No. 19 Louisiana Tech 91, Hawaii 52 -- Tasha Williams became the third player in Louisiana Tech history to record a triple-double. The win at Ruston, La., earned Louisiana Tech (23-4, 15-1) its fifth straight Western Athletic Conference regular-season title.

No. 22 Temple 70, Dayton 55 -- Candice Dupree had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Khadija Bowens scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half at Philadelphia in the Atlantic 10 tournament.

At North Little Rock, Ark., Seimone Augustus scored 29 points to help third-ranked Louisiana State (27-2) beat Kentucky and advance to the championship of the Southeastern Conference tournament. In the other SEC semifinal, Candace Parker had 26 points and 12 rebounds to help No. 8 Tennessee beat No. 12 Georgia, 89-79.

Southeast Missouri State earned the school’s first NCAA tournament berth by beating Tennessee Tech, 71-50, in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament final.
