Charlie Rose, host of the PBS interview program of the same name, was to undergo heart surgery in Paris on Wednesday and will be away from the show for several weeks to recuperate, a spokesman for the late-night host said.
Rose was admitted to the Georges-Pompidou European Hospital on Saturday, a day after he was examined by cardiologists there, spokesman Howard Rubenstein said. He’d experienced shortness of breath while working in Syria last week, the spokesman added.
Rose was expected to be back in the anchor chair by the end of April. In the meantime, various journalists and foreign policy experts chosen by his staff will fill in, the statement said.
