Re “The childbirth divide,” editorial, May 13
At last, an editorial that addresses the heart of the world’s immigration problems: too many people, all justifiably wanting better lives. Should all the world’s current population enjoy the same material standard of living as present-day Americans, we would require a few more planet Earths. The revelation may yet come when Cardinal Roger M. Mahony, champion of poor immigrants, convinces President Bush and the pope that the provision of widespread aid for family planning is ultimately in everyone’s best interest.
