A second helping of Chili

THE Red Hot Chili Peppers are still on top. The Los Angeles funk-punk quartet had the bestselling album in the country for the second week in a row with its “Stadium Arcadium,” which sold 157,000 copies.

That total was well off the CD’s first-week sales total (442,000), but it was enough to stave off the challenge of this week’s top debut, “Killa Season,” by Cam’ron. The Harlem-born rapper’s fourth album was preceded by an interesting promotion and tie-in: He directed and stars in a 2 1/2 -hour film of the same title that weaves his life story together with urban-crime fiction.

The film was screened recently in New York, where the Village Voice, which gave a glowing appraisal of the album, said of the film: “Avoid this movie at all costs if you value your sanity.”

The next highest premiere this week belonged to Ashley Parker Angel, a refugee from O-Town, the pop group assembled on air in the ABC-TV series “Making the Band.”

Angel is familiar to viewers of MTV with the show “There & Back.” His solo effort, “Soundtrack to Your Life,” sold 72,000 in its first week in stores to take the No. 5 spot on the chart assembled by Nielsen SoundScan.

White Stripes singer Jack White is in a new band, the Raconteurs, and their debut album, “Broken Boy Soldiers,” opens this week at No. 7 with 61,000 copies sold. The CD has spawned a successful rock-radio single in “Steady as She Goes.”

At No. 11 is “So Amazin,” the new CD from Christina Milian, the New Jersey-born singer and actress. Right behind it, at No. 12, is “Every Man for Himself,” the third studio album from Agoura Hills-based Hoobastank. Each sold about 50,000 copies.
