On his tour to help elect Republicans, President Bush asks which is the best party to protect the American public. I say let’s ask the more than 3,000 young men and women who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Have all of Bush’s speechwriters quit? First he recycles his father’s “stay the course,” and now President Reagan’s anti-drug mantra. Here’s another Reagan quote from the Iran-Contra scandal that Bush might consider using to describe Iraq: “Mistakes were made.”

Re “Campaigns go negative for a reason,” Oct. 28
Thanks for pointing out how our prospective representatives have reduced themselves to gossiping hens. It makes one wonder how they’ll be able to make constructive decisions while clucking around the farmyard. The flying accusations may get our attention, but it’s also a sad reminder that, when the dust settles, it won’t be cream that rises to the top, just scum.
