Being true to your oath

Re “Citizenship isn’t a split decision,” Opinion, Aug. 27

Citizenship is a question of loyalty, and there is no such thing as divided loyalty -- only loyalty and disloyalty. A former Canadian citizen, I swore allegiance to the United States when I received the gift of citizenship -- and meant it. Why should some be allowed to keep the fingers of their left hand crossed behind their backs when they raise their right?
