How about some water at the gate?

REGARDING Kathleen Doheny’s column [“Lighten Up, and Other Tips for Coping With New Rules for Fliers,” Healthy Traveler, Aug. 27], my daughter and son-in-law just returned from a Hawaiian vacation.
After waiting in long lines to board the plane with no water available, they asked the flight attendant for any kind of liquid refreshment. The response: “Wait until we’re airborne and we begin beverage service.” In other words, almost an hour after takeoff.
If the airlines want people to keep flying despite the new carry-on regulations, they’d better resurrect the notion of customer service. Otherwise, more of us will be opting for car trips.
