A police officer shot and killed a man Sunday night in South Los Angeles after the man fled the passenger side of a stolen SUV with a gun and fired at the officer, authorities said.
The Los Angeles Police Department did not release the name of the suspect or the officer, who was not injured.
The officer and his partner noticed a stolen sport utility vehicle about 6 p.m. and followed it to the 900 block of 84th Street, where the passenger jumped out and ran. “The suspect was seen with a gun in his possession,” said Officer Sara Faden. The two officers chased him down, and one ended up on the ground “tussling” with him, she said. “The suspect’s gun was fired.”
One or both of the officers then fired at the man, who was killed. A woman driving the stolen vehicle was arrested by other officers 10 blocks away.
