A Cypress man was killed Thursday after losing control of his motorcycle, slamming into a stopped truck in front of him and colliding with an oncoming SUV.
Stephen Varalyai, 41, was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center in Orange following the 5:30 p.m. accident in the northbound lanes of Springdale Street in Garden Grove.
According to police, the motorcyclist tried to stop his Harley-Davidson to avoid traffic ahead but instead struck the left rear bumper of a Ford pickup and veered into an opposing lane.
Neither alcohol nor excessive speed appeared to be a factor, said investigator Chris Wasinger of the Garden Grove Police Department.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, he said. Witnesses are asked to call (714) 741-5823.
