Free concert at Mods & Rockers fest

The eighth annual Mods & Rockers Film Festival in Hollywood has a new wrinkle this year with a free, open-air concert on Sunday that features Spencer Davis, Stephen Bishop and tribute bands playing the sounds of the 1960s.

Davis, of course, lent his name to the Spencer Davis Group, the British beat band that had hits such as “Gimme Some Lovin’ ” and “I’m a Man,” while Bishop is best known for 1970s fare such as “On and On” and “It Might Be You (Theme From ‘Tootsie’).” They and three tribute bands -- Monterey ‘67, the Records and the Ravers -- will perform from 2 to 6 p.m. at the courtyard of the Egyptian Theater at 6712 Hollywood Blvd.

The festival began Friday and runs through Aug. 1, with an emphasis this year on documentary films, including a July 19-21 retrospective on the works of D.A. Pennebaker (“Don’t Look Back,” “Monterey Pop”), who will also appear as part of the program. Among the screenings: “Atlantic Records: The House That Ahmet Built,” “Gimme Shelter,” “All My Loving” and “Smokey Joe’s Cafe.”
