Yucatan memories

THANKS for your article about cochinita pibil and where to get it [“A Delicious Wake-up Call, Straight From the Yucatan,” April 25].
My experience with it goes back to Cozumel, which I visited on a cruise in the mid-’80s. I ordered the local special at a little seaside restaurant having no idea what I was eating but I never forgot the flavor.
Years later, Mexica opened across from El Coyote and featured a dish with a Yucatan sauce, and that was the last time I ever experienced that flavor until I was in Merida last year. So we are going to stop in at the original Chichen Itza and hope that we aren’t one of the many faithful Times readers taking your expert advice at the same time.
