Police Monday night shot and killed a man who fired a weapon at an officer chasing him on foot near South Chevy Chase Drive and East Colorado Street, authorities said. A bulletproof vest protected the officer from serious harm, but the full extent of his injuries was not known late Monday night, according to Sgt. Tom Lorenz, Glendale Police Department spokesman.
Lorenz said he did not know what set off the pursuit, which began about 9:30 p.m. The man also fired at other officers called to the scene and at a patrol car before police confronted and shot him, Lorenz said. The identities of the dead man and the officer he shot were not released.
