* Tampa Bay 6, at Baltimore 2: James Shields pitched seven innings of five-hit ball and the Rays coasted to a victory. Starting in place of the injured Scott Kazmir, Shields walked three, struck out two and did not allow a runner to reach second base after the first inning.

* Kansas City 5, at Detroit 4 (11): Tony Pena Jr. hit a two-out, tiebreaking single in the 11th inning and the Royals held on to beat the Tigers.
* at Seattle 5, Texas 2: Jose Lopez had a two-run double in the seventh and new Mariners ace Erik Bedard gave up three hits in five innings and struck out five.
* Toronto at New York, ppd, rain: The final opening day at Yankee Stadium was postponed because of rain. The game was rescheduled for today, previously an off day.
* at Minnesota 3, Angels 2: Livan Hernandez scattered seven hits, six of them singles, without a walk while giving up two runs in his first appearance as an American Leaguer.
