April is Joe Dante month at L.A.’s New Beverly Cinema. From April 9 to April 22, the sci-fi schlockmeister will program and introduce a few of his favorite exploitation movies, including some of his own: “Gremlins 2: The New Batch” (April 12), “The Howling” (April 26), “Hollywood Boulevard” (April 11-12) and, free, “The Movie Orgy” (April 22), a seven-hour compilation of spliced 16-millimeter film clips, commercials and film trailers with an antiwar, anti-establishment bent, which he made in college in 1968. Also “Zulu” and “Mondo Cane” (April 9-10) and”The Sadist” and “The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover” (April 13-15). See www.newbevcinema.com/calendar.cfm.
