‘My Brother Is an Only Child’

“My Brother Is an Only Child” is not just a close relative of the Italian classic “The Best of Youth,” with which it shares screenwriters and a gift for intertwining the personal and the political. It is the kind of film that audiences resist driving to if the distances are too great. On that front, the news couldn’t be better. This involving story of two brothers who clash during the turbulent era of the 1960s and ‘70s not only remains at the Royal in Los Angeles, as of Friday it also plays at the Playhouse 7 in Pasadena, the Town Center 5 in Encino and the South Coast Village in Santa Ana. Now that it’s at a theater near you, you no longer have an excuse for staying away.
