Detroit 7, at Boston 2: The Tigers finally ended their winless start. Still, no team has made it to the postseason after an 0-7 start. The longest winless streak at the start of a season by a team that went on to make the postseason was six games by the 1974 Pittsburgh Pirates and the 1995 Cincinnati Reds.
Minnesota 12, at Chicago 5: Jason Kubel hit a grand slam and drove in six runs for the Twins. The 12 runs were their most since they beat the White Sox, 20-14 and 12-0, on July 6, 2007, at U.S. Cellular Field.
Oakland 6, at Toronto 3: Mark Ellis had four hits, including the game-tying triple in the ninth inning, then scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error. Jeremy Accardo (0-2) blew his first save in four chances.
at Kansas City 4, New York 0: The Royals have won consecutive games over the Yankees for the first time since sweeping a three-game series May 31-June 2, 2005, at Kauffman Stadium. The 15-day suspension of Royals outfielder Jose Guillen was put on hold through Tuesday by MLB and the Players’ Assn.
Seattle 7, at Tampa Bay 1: Former Angel Jarrod Washburn yielded one run in seven innings and improved to 11-3 against the Rays.
Baltimore at Texas, ppd., rain: The threat of severe weather forced the postponement of the game. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
at Angels 9, Cleveland 5: Mike Napoli hit his first grand slam.
