Deputy fire chief: An article in the California section on Sunday about the appointment of Helen Jo as the first female deputy chief of the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that she also was the first Asian American to achieve such a rank. Darrell D. Higuchi, a Japanese American, was promoted to deputy chief in 1993.
