Police apologize for shooting dogs

Prince George’s County Police Chief Melvin C. High said that Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo and his wife were “innocent victims of drug traffickers,” and that he was sorry his officers killed the couple’s dogs during a raid on their home last week.
“The Calvo family members were the apparent victims of a local drug ring,” High said in a statement. “I called him to express my sorrow and regret for that and for the loss of the family’s beloved dogs.”
Police stormed in after the delivery of a package of marijuana addressed to the mayor’s wife, Trinity Tomsic.
Two men have been arrested; police say they would deliver marijuana to unsuspecting residents, then intercept the package.
