The Dodgers’ playoff hopes this season may benefit from the acquisition of Manny Ramirez, but I wonder what damage will be incurred to the wonderful tradition that is Dodgers baseball.
If you cut Tommy Lasorda, he’ll bleed Dodger Blue. If you cut Manny, he’ll simply use it as an excuse to not run out a ground ball. He is a hitting savant who understands little, and cares even less, about the sport he plays. So be careful what you ask for Los Angeles, the game (and your baseball heritage) is more important than one season.

Bill Plaschke, please do some homework on your prospects and don’t say that Andy LaRoche is not considered much of a prospect. In preseason rankings, LaRoche was ranked by Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus as the Dodgers’ No. 2-rated prospect. Scouts love the guy, so don’t be surprised if he turns into an All-Star in a year or two. I don’t know if the trade will turn out well for the Dodgers (it might), but it could blow up in their faces.

Joe Torre advising people on what they should do with their hair? What’s next -- Tommy Lasorda telling us how to be slim and trim?

Congratulations to Ned Colletti and Frank McCourt for the recent acquisition of Manny Ramirez. Not only did they upstage Donald Sterling (Baron Davis) and Arte Moreno (Mark Teixeira), but now they can justify charging $15 for parking and $10 for a beer. As a fan, I have no problem paying these prices as long as the team wins and the product on the field is worth the price of admission.

So the Dodgers want Manny Ramirez to take them to the World Series. That should be no problem, he’s got the money for the air fare and tickets.

Did I read the ad correctly? On Aug. 15, the Dodgers are offering a promotional CD to the first 20,000 fans who exit the stadium?
If they really want to get rid of their clientele, why not offer CDs to the first 20,000 fans who don’t show up at all?
