Abbott Labs to cut 1,000 jobs

Drug and medical device maker Abbott Laboratories said it would cut 1,000 jobs as part of a multiyear effort to lower spending on its medical testing business. The cuts include 80 jobs at its Pasadena manufacturing site, which is expected to close in 2010.
