Rutgers routs Louisville

Mike Teel threw for 447 yards and matched a Big East Conference record with seven touchdown passes, and Rutgers dismantled Louisville, 63-14, on Thursday night at Piscataway, N.J., for the Scarlet Knights’ sixth win in a row.

Tim Brown and Tiquan Underwood each caught a pair of touchdown passes and the Scarlet Knights, 7-5 overall and 5-2 in the Big East, set a school record for points in a Big East game, rolling up 671 yards of total offense and sending lowly Louisville (5-7, 1-6) to its worst finish since 1997.

Rutgers will become only the seventh team in NCAA history to start 1-5 and reach a bowl game. A good bet is the Papajohns.com Bowl, but the Meineke Bowl, International Bowl and Motor City Bowl are also in the mix.

Rutgers’ win also knocks Notre Dame out of a potential Sun Bowl bid and leaves the Irish searching for a bowl game in which to play.

Tennessee’s Morley is arrested

Tennessee safety Demetrice Morley was arrested on an outstanding warrant stemming from a 2007 robbery charge. The warrant was issued in Miami after Morley failed to appear in court on Sept. 4 for a hearing related to a strong-armed robbery at Florida International University on April 24, 2007.

Two schools hired new coaches: Utah State hired Utah defensive coordinator Gary Andersen and Toledo hired Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Tim Beckman. . . . Fresno State Coach Pat Hill took his name out of consideration to replace Washington’s Tyrone Willingham and Fresno State accepted a bid to play in the New Mexico Bowl.
