Panel delays vote on Chick case

A City Council committee made no decision Monday on a request from City Controller Laura Chick for $100,000 to hire a lawyer to defend herself in a dispute with City Atty. Rocky Delgadillo.
Last month, Delgadillo sued Chick after she attempted to audit workers’ compensation programs in his office. Chick responded by seeking to hire attorney Fred Woocher, who helped defeat Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s school reform bill in court.
Councilman Bernard C. Parks, who heads the Budget and Finance Committee, voiced dismay that Delgadillo filed his suit without asking permission from the council. Parks’ committee will take up the matter again on Wednesday behind closed doors.
