High hopes in sci-fi

Thank you for the article on the new Hollywood remakes of sci-fi classics. [“Time Travel,” by Geoff Boucher, Dec. 7]
While I look forward to all the new movies, I am most excited about the new “Star Trek.” One of the writers summed up the reason for my excitement in the final quote of your piece: “One thing about the original show was its inherent optimism, and we very much wanted that in this movie. This is a future you would want to live in. And we hope it’s a future people want to watch.”
Now is the time for hope for the future. The country is in the midst of a crisis at home and two wars abroad. We just elected a new leader because we desperately need hope that the future is fair and just. “Star Trek” gave so much to the nation when it first aired in the late 1960s. I am so excited to learn that the creators of the new “Star Trek” movie intend to keep that optimism alive.
