Schilling has shoulder injury

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Curt Schilling has an injured right shoulder, and the pitcher and the Boston Red Sox have been squabbling over whether he should have surgery that could cost him the season or try something less drastic.

Writing on his blog, 38pitches.com, Schilling said Thursday night that he has agreed to abide by the club’s request to rely on rest and rehabilitation.

“There have been disagreements these past few weeks in an effort to provide me with a solution that would allow me to pitch as much as possible during the 2008 season,” Schilling wrote. “At no time did I ever consider taking a course of action against the club’s wishes. In the end, regardless of who agreed with whom, I have chosen the club’s course of action and will vigorously pursue any and every option I can to be able to help this team to another World Series title in 2008.”

Spagnuolo will return to Giants

New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo withdrew his name from consideration for the Washington Redskins coaching job after the Giants gave him a new three-year, $6-million contract that will make him one of the NFL’s highest paid coordinators.

“I was happy to have the opportunity to explore that situation,” Spagnuolo said in a statement released by the Giants. “But I am equally happy to be staying in New York and look forward to continued success with the Giants.”

The bullet that killed Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor ripped first through his right leg and then the left, and possibly came from a 9mm handgun, according to an autopsy.

The report, obtained by the Associated Press through a public records request filed after Taylor’s Nov. 27 death, notes a bullet perforated the soft tissues and muscles of the right groin and the right femoral artery, a crucial pathway for blood.

He is being held without bail, and additional hearings have yet to be scheduled.
