FESTIVAL FROLIC

Even if you have no idea what beesop is, the West African “Tale of Sweet Beesop” contains a universal truth: You don’t get something for nothing. The fable features prominently in the repertoire of storyteller Asha’s Baba (pictured), who will strum his kora while weaving stories of enchanted cow tails as part of the African American Heritage Festival. The celebration of African culture features folklore, food, a drum circle and performances by dance group Dembrebrah, the Bill Madison Jazz Ensemble and others. (By the way, beesop is a drink.) 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat.-Sun. Aquarium of the Pacific, 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach. Included with admission ($11.95-$20.95). (562) 590-3100, www.aquariumofpacific.org
