Bad management is GM’s problem

To those who believe that labor and unions are the root of corporate evil, I give you General Motors. (“U.S. car firms flat-out hurting,” June 27.)
GM could have responded to the original oil embargo in 1974 by committing to build cars that were more fuel efficient. It didn’t.
GM’s chief executives and top management have been handsomely compensated for decades for absolute incompetence, and should be replaced immediately.
If they lived in Japan, they would be humiliated and ashamed.
