* Kansas City 7, at Tampa Bay 4 (10 innings): The Rays’ winning streak ended at seven games when John Buck and Mike Aviles hit 10th-inning homers for the Royals. Carlos Pena hit a tying solo homer against All-Star closer Joakim Soria in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough for the first-place Rays, who finished a seven-game homestand at 6-1. Billy Butler reached second to start the 10th on a throwing error by Rays third baseman Evan Longoria. Pinch-runner Esteban German advanced to third on Mark Teahen’s grounder. After Dan Wheeler (2-4) intentionally walked Ross Gload, Buck lined his fourth homer of the season down the left-field line. Two pitches later, Aviles homered to make it 7-3.
* at Oakland 4, Seattle 3: Wes Bankston hit his first career home run, Dana Eveland won his third straight decision and the Athletics ended an eight-game losing streak at home to the Mariners. Bankston is batting .391 since being promoted to the majors on Wednesday.
* at Boston 1, Minnesota 0: Manny Ramirez singled in the eighth inning to score Dustin Pedroia for the Red Sox, who won for the 23rd time in 29 games at Fenway Park.
* Angels 9, at Texas 6: Torii Hunter homered twice for the Angels and Francisco Rodriguez earned his 35th save, the most for a closer before the All-Star break.
