Vanessa CLAIRE Smith is to be commended for conceiving “Louis & Keely: Live at the Sahara” [“Louis & Keely, Together Again” by Charlotte Stoudt, July 13] and for her perseverance in getting this show onstage. But she is no Keely Smith; her voice is thin, and Jake Broder, as hyper-kinetic Louis Prima, outshines her on stage; so when the story describes the complimentary reviews Keely receives as part of the lounge act, it rings hollow.
The real Louis played a helluva horn. However we’re supposed to accept that this Louis “gave it up” and just grins, sings, jumps and clowns all over the stage constantly.
