Government troops and Tamil Tiger rebels fought scattered battles across northern Sri Lanka over two days, leaving 30 rebels and four soldiers dead, the military said in a statement.
Monday, army troops in the Mannar district killed seven Tamil fighters, the military said.
That came a day after fighting killed 10 rebels in the Vavuniya district south of the Tamil Tigers’ de facto state in the north, military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said.
Battles in the Welioya area killed six rebels and four soldiers. Six other rebels were killed in Mannar and another died in Jaffna, he said.
Rebel spokesman Rasiah Ilanthirayan could not be reached for comment.
