Two South Los Angeles gang members were arrested on suspicion of burglary after they were spotted leaving a Westside home near the Santa Monica border carrying two Gucci bags stuffed with about $200,000 in jewelry, authorities said Wednesday.
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Crimes Bureau observed the men casing an upscale neighborhood Monday afternoon, said department spokesman Sgt. David Infante.
The pair walked to the rear of a residence and reappeared a short time later carrying the bags, he said. They then drove away in a rental car.
When detectives tried to stop the suspects, one man jumped out of the car and started running, Infante said. Both men were quickly apprehended. They were identified as Ashton Carter, 28, of Los Angeles, and Jason Willis, 21, of Inglewood.
