at New York 10, Chicago 0: Sergio Mitre shook off the rust and pitched sharply before getting struck by a line drive in the seventh inning, combining with Chad Gaudin on a one-hitter to lead the Yankees.
at Boston 3, Toronto 2: Clay Buchholz gave up only three singles in 8 1/3 innings, and run-scoring singles by Alex Gonzalez and Dustin Pedroia made up for a Red Sox offense that sputtered in the early innings.
Texas 3, at Minnesota 0: Scott Feldman gave the Rangers another strong start, holding the Twins scoreless into the sixth inning and helping Texas keep pace in the wild-card chase.
Tampa Bay 3, at Detroit 1: David Price had the longest outing of his young career (7 1/3 innings) to help the Rays beat the Tigers.
at Seattle 8, Kansas City 4: Mike Sweeney’s two-run double sparked a four-run first inning.
