Hart to play Golden Valley in Foothill League basketball opener

Why it matters: This is the Foothill League opener for two schools that have split their first two meetings. Golden Valley’s only loss came to Hart, 63-60, on Dec. 22 in a tournament game. The Grizzlies have an improving 6-foot-6 junior in Trevor Wiseman and top scorers in Steven Thornton and Maverick Ahanmisi. Hart’s top player is guard Brad Wyche.

North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 86, Los Angeles Loyola 81
Leading contributors: Austin Kelly of Harvard-Westlake scored 29 points. Miles Cartwright of Loyola scored 30 points, including 16 consecutive free throws.
The scoop: There were 56 fouls and 81 free throws. Harvard-Westlake opened a 16-point lead in the second quarter and led by 13 in the fourth quarter, but Loyola kept chipping away.
Why it matters: Harvard-Westlake, ranked No. 3 in Southern Section Division III-A, becomes the Mission League favorite with the road victory.
Records: Harvard-Westlake 11-5, 3-0; Loyola 10-5, 3-1.
