Physician, heal thyself?

For someone in the healing profession, Rahul Parikh is incredibly obtuse [“Put Away That List of Demands,” Jan. 19]. He walked in the room and made a negative assessment about the mother, based on her attire, before either one had said a word.

Isn’t it the doctor’s responsibility to look beyond external manifestations? I can understand his irritation with the mother’s insistence, but she never had a chance with him. Had he addressed both mother and teen respectfully, he might have gotten the same in return.

If he can’t control his judgmental impulses, perhaps next time he should gently suggest that mom wait in the reception area. Or change professions and work with widgets that all look alike.
