A Darfur peacekeeper was killed when gunmen attacked his vehicle in southern Darfur, a mission spokeswoman said.
Josephine Guerraro said eight gunmen opened fire on U.N.-African Union forces as they were returning from a patrol to their base outside the southern town of Nyala. The peacekeeper died as he was being taken to the mission’s main hospital in North Darfur. The gunmen, who were not identified, escaped.
