Apple Inc. has resigned from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Cupertino, Calif., company is the latest to quit after the chamber expressed opposition to government efforts to limit greenhouse gas emissions.
“Apple supports regulating greenhouse gas emissions, and it is frustrating to find the chamber at odds with us,” Catherine Novelli, Apple’s vice president of worldwide government affairs, wrote in a letter to the Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber opposes President Obama’s efforts to win passage of a “cap-and-trade” system to limit carbon emissions and curb global warming. The chamber says the proposal amounts to a tax that would cripple the economy, and says the science used to document global warming should be reexamined.
